New Pictures from Mom

My Mom is very excited about my (almost) new house (not signed yet), so she went there again at the weekend. The old owners were there, so she went inside and could take a few more picture. Yes, for ME, because I still haven't seen it myself!

Yes, everyone who looked at it yet is pretty shocked what it looks like, but - hey - it was THAT cheap and we know it needs renovation....
The door into garden and house.
This definitely will be replaced very soon!

Look from the street into the front yard.
These dirty white shingles will be replaced.
I dream from a light grey color for the whole house - maybe next year.

I have no clue where that could be, most likely behind the house from the garden side.

The kitchen - be sure that NOTHING stays like it is right now.

Iiiiiieeeeeh - the 70's bathroom :-)
My Mom says that besides the funny colors everything is clean and usable.
So this will probably not be one of the first things to renovate - will see...

My Mom with some friend of the current owner in the back yard.
The jungle is calling...

The way from the house deeper down into the garden.
Maybe Tarzan lives there :-)

... big construction!

Oh well, I can imagine what it could look like after renewing.

I guess the roof will need to be replaced in a few years,
thank god my uncle is a roofer!

This will be my parking spot,
I just hope they will let me set up a car port, so my Alfa has some winter protection.
I know, it all looks very old, but when buying such an old house you know you have to take some money to renew lots of stuff. But this is the greatest area around Bayreuth you could possibly live and still, this huge yard for this money is just amazing.

Litte more info

I am so excited!!!
My Mom, too :-)

Her first thought is: Get some sheep for this huge yard, then you don't have to mowe it any more :-)

I found "my" house on Google Maps, this shows you how big the property is (for Martha: I will call it "my little Paris").

The yard will be a paradise for Rocki as well!

My thoughts and decisions

So the first blog post shows the exposé how I found it on the internet...

Actually I was only looking for renting a little 1-2 room appartment in Bayreuth, but did not even think about buying a house or property. But this offer was so great (and cheap!!!) that I just had to consider it! Of course imaging what it could look like when it is renovated, the pictures of the inside of this old house did not really shock me, although the interior looks horrible as it is right now...

But - my best thought all over was: This is a dream. Living in Bayreuth, right next to the town, in the middle of an awesome nature and very near to my families other weekend houses. Indeed 10 minutes away from my Dad's summer house where I spent my vacation for 3 weeks last year and enjoyed it and really recovered.
Wow - I will live there now - I will finally have a home - something that is mine for ever and can always keep (even if I go to the U.S. for a few years).

I send this offer to my Mom and totally unexpectedly she also loved it on the first view. She normally is very picky and exclusive, but she shared my thoughts about the renovations and what it could look like.

So my Mom had an appointment with the estate agent and took a look at the house, so here is everything she said:

  • The yard is huge and an absolute dream!
Lots of work, but hey - we are gardening people anyway...
  • It is on a hill and the grassland has steep and even parts
  • The house is built into that hill - you enter the house from the little street on the north side into the 2nd floor and have to go downstairs to enter the 1st floor, which has the exit into the yard on the south side.
  • There is a fence around the whole property, not the newest, but it still looks kind of ok.
  • The stairs in the house are kind of horrible, on the 2nd floor you have to open a hatch in the floor to go downstairs - but I (my Mom) have already imagined some nice stairs to be there.
  • I did not smell anything moldy (my Mom would smell that from outside already, if it was there :-)
So over all my Mom called me in a very hyper mood right after her visit at the house and said that this place can easily be made up like a little "treasure chest".

So I called my uncle, who also lives in Bayreuth - he owns a roofing company and knows a lot about handy work. He also took a look at it (but wasn't inside) and his opinion was not as amused, he has only seen the work that needs to be done.
Well, then let's do it...
  • Found on the internet last Friday
  • Sent to my Mom on Saturday
  • Mom took a look at it on Wednesday
  • I decided to buy it on Thursday
(Yes, I told the estate agent yesterday. I DID IT)
  • Today is Friday, so all this happened within one week
(and I personally have not even seen it yet :-)
I guess this house will be my "project" for the next few years, do some renovation VERY SOON, that I can move in REALLY SOON to leave this unloved town Ulm within a couple of month!

If you are interested in the progress of my "life-project", please subscribe here.
I will document it with photographs and stories either until it is renovated the way I want it to be (if ever so :-) or until I die...

How exciting!!!

A weekend property, that you could also live in the whole year through. You can even move your residence to that place and always live like you are on vacation.

This property is in the middle of a protected landscape conservation area "Oschenberg" but has all needed logistics like water, electricity, telephone and cable TV. The yard has not only big grasslands, but also ornamental shrubs and fruit-bearing trees. It is not in the best shape and lots of gardening work is needed.
